Description
We stood on a busy street corner in Havana Cuba, just watching the ebb and flow of people and vehicles. Food vendors with carts of onions were common sight. I wondered about where these onions were destined for, as there are reports that the surge in tourism is “… literally eating Cuba’s lunch. Thanks in part to the United States embargo, but also to poor planning by the island’s government, goods that Cubans have long relied on are going to well-heeled tourists and the hundreds of private restaurants that cater to them, leading to soaring prices and empty shelves.” (from the New York Times). Time will tell how this issue is resolved for Cuba.
